Public vs Private health care

[If I remember correctly, this one was about the pros and cons of private and public health care. Disclaimer: I might be wrong on some points regarding other countries’ health care system, as I wrote this not so seriously. Feel free to send me correction though !]

In some countries like England or France, health care is provided both by the government and by private companies. However, it is important to question the positive and negative points of health care being taken in charge by a private organisation.

It is essential to note first that as the private sector isn’t funded by the government, it has no limited budget, and thus can provide better medical infrastructures. Private facilities are usually in better conditions, cleaner and newer, and there can be more specialists available than in the public sector.

But private companies need to be expensive, so they can have the funds to provide a quality service. This means that not everybody can have access to health care : some people can’t afford a private medical appointment, and that is why public health care stays vital. We can demonstrate this point by mentioning the thousands of people who couldn’t afford a medical treatment in the United States before the Obamacare system (even though the act was repealed by D. Trump after his election). On the opposite of public health care, private companies are not paid for by the insurance ; it is not a universal service.

On the other hand, if fewer people have access to private health care, there will be less waiting time to get an appointment. The distribution of the services between the private and the public sectors could then be positive for the government, whose burden would be lighter.

In conclusion, I believe that private health care has both advantages and inconvenient, but that it should work hand in hand with the public system in order to be effective.

Why I think Net Neutrality is vital

[This essay was one of the first ones I wrote this year so it lacks structure and logic but anyway here’s that !]

The Internet is, according to my personal definition, a worldwide resource which allows people from all around the globe to communicate, interact, exchange and learn without borders.

What I love the most about the web is that it enables me to discover the work of people (mainly artists in my case) that I wouldn’t have discovered otherwise, and to broaden my general culture and knowledge. The internet also allows many people to have an online safe space and to find comfort if they are having a bad time for example.

I think of the Internet as a gigantic sharing platform, that anyone with a wifi connection can access. That is why the idea of an Internet WITHOUT net neutrality is AGAINST nature.

How could we all share content equally when ISPs could censor any content they want, according to criteria they’ve decided  ?

Without net neutrality, we would no longer be able to share personal opinions (whether they are wrong or legitimate) and be heard. Finally if think that this law will profit rich people (businessmen and companies in particular), because they are the ones who will have enough money to impose their rules and control what’s going on.

Magic and progress

Here are some pictures I took when I went to the teamLab – Au-delà des limites exhibition in La Villette, Paris.

I drove there myself, which was kind of a big deal because of the french périph’, but the real accomplishment for me was to go to the exhibition. I usually always plan when and where I’m going to go out. But recently, I’ve been making progress at being more spontaneous, aggreeing to last minute plans and actually go see that thing you told me to visit about x weeks ago.

A yay for progress, and an impressed, interested wow at the teamLab crew for the magical exhibition they put together. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. It felt like being in a magical world filled with music, beautiful lights and kids happily running around.

Unfortunately as I am the slowest person on earth to write articles, the exhibition is over now, but you can still go check teamLab’s website to see their work, and maybe find where their next exhibition will take place:  https://www.teamlab.art/fr/e/lavillette

beauty standards

[I was really angry when I wrote this article, and even though I softened some words, I think you can still feel it in the text. I usually am not an angry person, so this should convince you on how passionate I am on the subject]

I so flipping hate society for making 14yo girls like my sister think it’s a shame to have stretch marks and making her check her weight /everyday/, even on holidays.

I so flipping hate society for making young girls hate their bodies, hide in the bathroom to shave because they’re ashamed of having hair.

I so flipping hate society for making them think that having acne is disgusting and that they have to get rid of it by any mean.

To my sister and all the little sisters, you do NOT need to have the “perfect” hairless, skinny body ! You have so many others things to do than worrying about what you look like. Have fun, do what you like, you have time to grow up ! Do not listen to those who will say that you’re not what /they/ want you to be.

A jewel in the sky

For the first time, I get to see the blood moon in live.

How strange is that, that we are able to watch the moon as she turns red before our eyes, hanging in the sky like a Christmas ornament, surrounded by an infinity of stars and constellations ?

Mars is bright tonight. Shining like a polished garnet below the moon.

As I watch the shadow of the earth progress on the surface of the moon, I think. I think of the men who walked up there, of the thousands of kilometers separating us from it, of how surreal tonight feels, in the chilly air of the seaside when the sun is hidden.

As I watch the mood turn red, I read. I read about blood moon tales, stories and legends. The moon chased by the jaguar, the moon wounded and healing, the moon angry with the sun.

She is now turning black, darkening as she’s enveloped by the earth’s shadow, but I can still see the dull spots on her surface, where mounts and valleys stand.

Will I stay up late enough to see the moon go back to normal ? Or, will I want to see the moon go back to normal ? I can already distinguish a small, pale light on the side.

As I slide into my bed, I remember this vision, of a bright red moon so big among the stars but so small in the wide sky. Like a dream.
