Bulgaria 2018

For the summer holidays, we decided to travel to Bulgaria. As usual, the decision was taken less than a week before leaving, which tends to be a pretty bad idea, in my opinion, as it stresses everyone in the house until we choose a destination.

We left on the 11th of July, taking the plane to Varna with a stop in Vienna.

Yesterday (July 13th) we visited the city of Balchik and its palace and botanical garden. It rained heavily, to our surprise, but I didn’t mind. We took refuge in Queen Marie’s summer residence – the Quiet Nest. The atmosphere was strange, all those people waiting in the same room for the end of nature’s caprice.

We then visited Cape Kaliakra and the remainings of its stronghold.

I hope you’re spending lovely holidays, see ya !

Summer summer summer

That’s it !

I have officially graduated from high school ! And with honour !

Right after the results, my classmates and I had a little party at school with our teachers to celebrate our graduation. The atmosphere was awesome. Everyone was happy, smiling, chatting with each other, and the weather was perfect, as if it was congratulating us.

We took pictures and drank soda in the light shade of the trees.

Then it was time to say goodbye to the school. I’ll go back next year, to meet my old classmates again and have a meal together, but today felt like the end of an era. Seven years have passed, and so many memories have been made. I cried, I stressed, I cursed this school, but I also smiled and laughed and stayed extra hours with my friends joking around.

Seven years ago I stepped into the courtyard, shy and anxious. Today I stepped out, leaving a place that saw me grow and change to what I am now.

But as one of my teachers stated, this is not the end of an era, but the beginning of the rest of our lives. And despite my doubts and my desperate need of holidays, I am full of hope for the years to come.

Good bye school,

post-prom night school

and hello summer !

Prom night

Last night was prom night.

It was not a prom like you see in American teenage movies. Just a small party, with (not enough) pizza, candies, music and disco lights. With flower necklaces everywhere and bright grins. We took pictures before the sun went down, and even recreated memes together like the bunch of nerds we are !

My friends and I took this time to celebrate the end of our exams and of the school year. I had been told that this year would be difficult. It has been, but not as I expected. I’m actually surprised of how little I studied compared to what I thought I would have to do. But all the time I spent not studying was spent doing so many other things !

I danced almost every nights during the week, sometimes during the weekends, participated to a remake of West Side Story and to the end-of-the-year shows.

I took part in a project called Arts en Scènes (@artsenscenes), which had me busy during weekends and holidays and, cherry on top, I spent about ten days in Hô Chi Minh City, Vietnam to perform among artists from different horizons and help a charity.

I applied to take part in an exhibition with the pictures I took for my dance project, which made me want to really get into photography.

I went to my first ever concert !

I also got to meet people, became friends with some of them, and consolidated friendships.

So this school year has been busy, to say the least. But I’m happy about it. I’m happy I made it through, I’m happy I managed all of this and, above all, I’m happy that I’ve been able to push back my limits further.

Despite all of this, I feel like I managed my finals pretty well. We’ll see the results soon.

Last night was prom night, and I enjoyed every single moment of it.

Tips on avoiding clenching your jaw/teeth

I have been clenching my teeth for quite a long time now, and this 24/7, but it has become kind of a problem recently. I’ve been waking up every morning with pain in my jaw, the taste of blood on my tongue and small cuts on the inside of my cheeks. I’ve talked about it with my dentist, but all I got was “try not to stress too much”. So helpful really, obviously I hadn’t tried that before.

So here are some tips (other than “find cause of/reduce anxiety” :/) I’ve gathered and that help me everyday :

  • Be aware of it and try to catch yourself. The past weeks have been very stressful for me, and I knew I’d be clenching really hard, so I trained myself to take a second and check if my muscles were contracted. I’ve been doing this for about a week, and I found myself clenching every single time.
  • Take a deep breath ! And this comes from someone who really hates meditation/breathing exercices, and can’t breath properly. I tend to take really small breaths, so just like for the first tip, I try to stop and take a random deep breath. People around me sometimes think I’m being bored or annoyed, but that’s in fact just me breathing fully.
  • Ask someone to check for you ! Even if your jaw looks the same clenched or relaxed, you can still ask your family/friends to give you small reminders. This also works for the breathing bit, or if you bite your nails. My mom for example, regularly tells me to breath loudly, so she can hear me, especially when I’m in a stressful period.
  • Massage your jaw. Find the spot where you feel the most tension and give yourself a massage. It doesn’t need to be long, even a quick rub will do ! You can also apply a hot compress to help relax the muscles.
  • Listen to soothing music. This goes with the “relax” part, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.
  • Wear retainers (or mouth guards but I don’t know much about them). This tip is more about reducing the damages you can do to yourself than reducing the causes of clenching itself, but it’s still worth mentioning. I first noticed I was grinding my teeth because the retainers I had after wearing braces were full of holes. I asked the dentist to keep them and eventually had new ones made because -hehe- I broke them one night. I don’t actually know if you can use rugby/soccer mouth guards for a long period of time so if anybody knows, feel free to add something !
  • Make sure that it isn’t due to misaligned teeth. I should have mentioned it first, but obviously do check with your dentist if there’s anything in particular causing this.
  • Could it be something else ? This might not be true for everyone, but I recently noticed that didn’t like the shape of my face when my jaw was relaxed (it’s slight but still). Oh. Could that be an unconscious reaction to that, just like pushing up your nose because you don’t like the way it looks, or whatever you can find ?? I’ll let that up to you.

You can also check the WikiHow page (bc they apparently have a page for everything gosh) herehere or here for other tips I haven’t mentioned. Feel free to add your own tips too !

And now, are you clenching your jaw ?

Why do we love the sound of thunder ?

I love it when it rains, when there’s a storm outside, when you can see the lightnings flashing on the walls and in the clouds and wait for the thunder to roll, when the noise resounds inside your chest and you can feel it in your bones.

I love the smell of the rain right before the storm hits, and the smell right after, when everything is slowly drying and small drops are falling from trees and leaves.

I’m a girl of the rain. I don’t mind the rain.
